‘India’s Disappearing Beaches – A Wake Up Call’ is a non-profit film produced in the public interest by Shekar Dattatri for Pondy Citizens’ Action Network (PondyCAN).
It is estimated that 40% of India’s beaches may already be eroding due to poorly planned development activities such as ports and coastal power plants. Unfortunately, rather than address the root causes of erosion, the response of state governments has been to build ineffectual sea walls.
The film explains how erosion takes place and how it is possible to not only prevent man-made erosion but to restore lost beaches through the right measures.
Pondy Citizens' Action Network - PondyCAN - is a broad-based, non-profit organization committed to preserve and enhance the natural, social, cultural and spiritual environment. PondyCAN has been studying and documenting coastal erosion along the Pondicherry-Tamil Nadu coastline for many years. For more information visit www.pondycan.org
